Privacy Policy

Doha Dish is a hobby project and independent editorial publication. We take privacy seriously, and the short version is: we collect almost nothing.
What we collect
We don't collect personal information from visitors — there's no sign-up or newsletter form on the site.
Analytics (optional): We use Google Analytics to understand which venues are most visited. This is completely optional — you choose whether to accept analytics via the banner at the bottom of this page. If you reject analytics, we don't track you at all. No personal data (email, name, location) is collected.
If we add a newsletter in future, we'd store only the email address you choose to give us, and we'd never sell, share, or rent it.
Cookies & local storage
Your analytics choice is stored in your browser's localStorage (not a cookie) under doha_dish_consent, and — if you open the map — a second key doha_dish_map_ok remembers that you approved it. Both stay on your device, contain no personal information, and are never sent to us.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics then sets its own cookies (such as _ga) to measure page views. If you reject analytics, no such cookies are set. You can clear this storage and any Google cookies at any time via your browser settings, and the banner will reappear on your next visit.
How to control analytics
You have full control. Use the banner at the bottom of every page to:
- Accept: Allow us to track page views and basic metrics to improve the site
- Reject: No analytics data is sent. You still get full access to the site
- Change your mind: Clear your browser's site data for this site (localStorage and any Google cookies) — the banner returns on your next visit
What third parties see
We keep third parties to a minimum. Only two ever receive your IP address, and only after you opt in:
- Google Analytics — page-view metrics, loaded only if you accept analytics in the banner
- CARTO — serves the map tiles, contacted only if you open the map (see below)
Everything else — fonts, venue photos, and the map software itself — is served from our own domain, so it involves no third party.
Maps
Some pages offer an optional map view. The map does not load automatically — you have to click to activate it. Once you do, your browser requests map tiles from CARTO (our map-tile provider), which then receives your IP address and the map area you are viewing. If you never open the map, nothing is sent to CARTO at all.
CARTO's handling of that data is governed by the CARTO Privacy Policy. The underlying map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Newsletter
We don't run a newsletter yet. If we launch one, it would be strictly opt-in — we'd email you only our Doha brunch update, and you could unsubscribe with one click in any email.
Your rights
You can request a copy of any data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it. Email privacy@dohadish.com and we'll action it.
Changes
If this policy changes meaningfully, we'll update the date at the top of this page and (if we ever run a newsletter) notify subscribers.
